HOD'S Message
Prof. Thimmaiah A G
Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at CIT. The department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the year 2010 and has made remarkable achievements during this journey. The department being one of the youngest and the finest departments of the college. Our aim is to be a centre of excellence in the field of Mechanical Engineering where the best of teaching, learning and research synergize.
We have a team of dedicated and experienced faculty members, driving the department towards excellence in teaching. Our Laboratories have been very well established not only to cover complete syllabus but to motivate students to learn beyond the syllabus which definitely develops complete knowledge of the subject and develop skill sets of students to become promising engineers in future. The Department organizes Seminars, workshops on wide-ranging topics every year.
We have a very good Industry-Institute interaction and we organize Industrial visits for students periodically to provide an opportunity for the students to interact with working professionals from industry.

Industrial Visit to Sharavathi Hydro Power Plant, Shivamoga
Department of Mechanical Engineering of Coorg Institute of Technology, Ponnampet organized an Industrial visit to Sharavathi Hydro Power Plant on 8th November 2019. Sharavathi Hydro Power Plant in Karnataka is commissioned in 1964. It has an approved and installed capacity of 1035 Megawatt.Students were given a brief explanation about blue print of the plant and different aspects of the turbine. 82 students of Mechanical Engg. Department participated in this event. Mr. Thimmaiah A G, HOD Mechanical Engg. Department and all faculties of Mechanical Engg department were present during this visit.
Career Guidance and Motivation
A session to quote the importance of career was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 18th September ,2019 by the resource person Dr. Nithin K S, Prof. Department of Chemistry, National Institute of Engineering, Mysuru. Picking a career usually comes after picking a course. If a student doesn’t pick a right course it eventually affects the choice of career. Dr. Nithin motivated the students of Department of mechanical engineering on choosing the right career after graduation. He educated the students about various competitive exams conducted by State and Central government of India. Dr. Nithin expressed his views on the courses available globally for post graduation. He also mentioned about the advantages and disadvantages of pursuing career in one’s own field of interest. The session was followed by an interaction between the resource person and the students. At the end of session, students had a broader view on what should be the choice of career after graduation.
Two-day workshop on E- Vehicles Design and Dynamics
Department of Mechanical Engineering of Coorg Institute of Technology, Ponnampet organized a two-day workshop on "E- Vehicles Design and Dynamics" on 24th and 25th September 2019 in association with AMZ Automotive, Jaipur. Workshop focused on educating students about the importance of electric vehicles and its design. Practical session was arranged where students dismantled and then assembled the electric Go Kart. Students drove this Go Kart at the end of the event. 100 students of Mechanical Engg.. Department participated in this event. Resources persons Mr. Rahul Ranjan and Mr. Beggeio from AMZ Automotive, Mr. Thimmaiah A G, HOD Mechanical Engg.. Department, Mr. Sujith N S workshop coordinator and all faculties of Mechanical Engg department were present during this event.
